Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program
The VIPS Program works to enhance the capacity of state and local
law enforcement to utilize volunteers. VIPS serves as a gateway to resources
and information for and about law enforcement volunteer programs. Funded
by DOJ, VIPS is managed and implemented by International Association of Chiefs of Police.
Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Educational Programs
The VIPS Program provides educational programs for representatives of established law enforcement organizations. The sessions will provide an overview of the products and services available to your agency and provide tools to enhance your agency's capacity to utilize volunteers.
International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)
The International Association of
Chiefs of Police is the world's
oldest and largest nonprofit membership organization of police executives,
with over 20,000 members in over 89 different countries. IACP's leadership
consists of the operating chief executives of international, federal,
state and local agencies of all sizes.
Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), U.S. Department of Justice
The Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) is a component of the Office
of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, which also includes
the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the National Institute of Justice,
the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, and the Office
for Victims of Crime. BJA’s mission is to provide leadership and
services in grant administration and criminal justice policy development
to support local, state, and tribal justice strategies to achieve safer
communities.
President’s
Volunteer Service Award
The President's Volunteer Service Award was created by President Bush
to recognize outstanding volunteers. The Award is available to Americans
of all ages who complete a significant amount of service to their communities.
Citizen Corps
The Citizen Corps initiative supports volunteer service by engaging
individuals in promoting the safety of our communities. Through Citizen
Corps Councils, the program brings together leaders from law enforcement,
fire, emergency medical and other emergency management, volunteer organizations,
local elected officials, and the private sector to help them coordinate
and engage citizens in homeland security and for promoting community
and family safety. Citizen Corps includes new and existing federally-sponsored
programs and other activities that share the common goal of helping
communities prevent, prepare for and respond to crime, disasters, pressing
public health needs and emergencies of all kinds.
Citizen Corps Partners
Citizen Corps includes five federal program partners: the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program, Fire Corps, Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), Neighborhood Watch Program and the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program.
