National Neighborhood Watch Awards of Excellence
The Neighborhood Watch Awards of Excellence Program was established by the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) in 2004 to recognize and honor those law enforcement agencies, Neighborhood Watches, states, organizations, and programs that are doing extraordinary things to promote Neighborhood Watches (NW) in their communities. The awards will be presented at the NSA's annual conference in Anaheim, California, June 26-30, 2010. Programs that have made an exceptional contribution to the Neighborhood Watch program in their communities are encouraged to submit nominations to NSA by March 31, 2010.
MetLife Foundation Community-Police Partnership Awards Program
MetLife Foundation and the Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) are partnering for the ninth year to recognize, sustain and share the work of innovative partnerships between community groups and police to promote neighborhood safety and revitalization. Through the MetLife Foundation Community-Police Partnership Awards Program, MetLife Foundation and LISC will identify and honor partnerships that exhibit tangible accomplishments in their efforts to advance the process, outcome, and/or evaluation of potent police?community collaborations. Awards will be given in the following two categories: Neighborhood Revitalization Awards and Special Strategy Awards. Applications are due February 26, 2010.
FY10 Department of Homeland Security Community Preparedness Funding Summary
The FY 2010 DHS preparedness grants contain 10 grant programs that support strengthening of community preparedness and participation efforts. FEMA’s Community Preparedness Division sifted through the grant application kits for each program to pull out the specific citations and developed a summary of relevant citations from each grant program,including the Homeland Security Grant Program's Citizen Corps Program Funding. This summary is intended to assist potential grantees with identifying the full breadth of resources available to support the critical mission of community resilience. Senior Corps RSVP Grants Competition
The Corporation for National and Community Service (the Corporation) announces Senior Corps RSVP Grants Competition. RSVP engages people age 55 and older in a diverse range of volunteer activities that deliver valuable services to meet community needs while providing an enriching experience to those who serve. RSVP volunteers choose how, where, and how often they want to serve, with commitments ranging from a few hours to 40 hours per week.
The purpose of this RSVP grant funding is two-fold: (1) to establish new RSVP projects in geographic areas that are currently unserved by existing Corporation-funded RSVP projects; and (2) to expand the number of RSVP volunteers serving in existing RSVP projects who will engage in new programmatic activities. Applications are due on April 6, 2010.
January Question of the Month Results
Each month, a new Question of the Month is posted to the VIPS Web site. The January Question of the Month, "Does your agency include volunteer programs in its annual report?" received 118 responses:
- 64 percent responded yes.
- Eight percent responded no.
- Eight percent responded I don't know.
- Seven percent responded my agency does not produce an annual report.
