Because of the national VIPS Program, the Fairfax County Police Department is able to broaden our base of potential volunteers not only within Northern Virginia but throughout the country by use of the VIPS Website.

Program Description

Logan City Police Reserve Corp

The Reserve Corps consists of Law Enforcement Certified Officers, Special Functions Certified Officers and citizen volunteers. Duties include assisting Department with special events, extra manpower for Patrol, special security assignments, transit system patrol, and any other duties needed by the Department.

Reserve Officers are required to work 10 hours per month and obtain 40 hours of law enforcement training annually to maintain their certification. Some assignments are paid but most are volunteer time. Reserve Officers are trained by full-time officers and are allowed
to perform all law enforcement duties while under the supervision of the full-time officer.
The Reserve Corp volunteers over 2700 hours of manpower per year for the Department.

Reserve Officers are required to be certified by Utah Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) prior to being appointed to the Reserve Corps as an officer. The Department provides uniforms, radios, vests, coats, and other clothing items. The volunteers are required to provide their own leather gear, firearms, footwear, and hardware.

Being a Reserve Officer provides experience for those seeking full-time employment in a law enforcement career. The experience gained is given credit when applying for full-time positions by most law enforcement agencies in the region and enables a candidate to maintain their certification while waiting for the opportunity to apply for full-time employment.

Many of our Reserve Officers are citizens that work full-time in the private sector and participate as a volunteer in the Corps to enhance the quality of life in the community. The senior members of the Corps have served from 10 years to over 20 years, dedicating much of their off time to assisting Logan City Police with serving the community needs.

A new component of our Reserve Corps is the addition of a volunteer squad that consists of members 18 years to 21 years of age. The Volunteer Squad (V-Squad) members have an interest in a law enforcement career but due to their age, cannot apply for fulltime employment until they are 21 years old. The six "V-Squad" members support the Reserve Corps and police department in a variety of activities to include parades, fingerprint services to the public, command post runners, community service projects and ride-a-longs with full time officers.

The Reserve Corp Captain, Van Stirland has served more than 30 years in the Logan City
Police Reserve Corps. Captain Stirland donates hundreds of hours each year to the management of the Corps and serving the community.
