Program Description
Community Patrols of New Zealand Charitable Trust (CPNZ) is a national body for voluntary community patrol groups throughout New Zealand. CPNZ was formed in 2001 to:
*Provide local patrol groups with a single voice to Government and corporates and provide liaison with the Police.
*Help new groups start up by providing a start-up kit and training.
*Advise on where to apply and what is required for funding.
*District delegates are available to offer help and advice. CPNZ is working towards 12 District Committees in line with the 12 Police Districts.
Patrols operate high profile or covertly according to the requirements of their community. There are now 114 Community Patrols throughout NZ affiliated to CPNZ with more forming and joining all the time. Community patrols have operated in some form or other in New Zealand for about 20 years. CPNZ provides the opportunity for patrols to exchange best practice and have an annual National Training Seminar held in June of each year. Visitors from other countries are welcome to attend.
All affiliated patrols work under CPNZ Rules of Affiliation and Procedure and are non-confrontational acting only as 'eyes and ears' for the NZ Police. All patrols are run by their own committees but have a Police Liaison Officer attached to the patrol who provide information to assist effective patrolling.
