The Central Point Police Department has had uniformed Reserve Police Officers for several years. Currently the size of the unit is very small (1), and will remain small until a reorganization of the entire program is completed. The unit has been an extremely useful and helpful program to the police department over the years and will continue to be so in the future.
We have a small Chaplain program that currently utilize(2) Chaplains, (with two more attending our current VIPS Academy). They provide intervention, counseling and spiritual assistance to our officers, staff and family as needed.
In 2006 we initiated a Law Enforcement Explorer Post program that is designed to teach young people about law enforcement practices as well as utilize them to assist patrol in activities such as DARE events, parades and other special events that occur within the city annually.
We are in the process of increasing the size of our current 19 member VIPS program through active recruitment of citizens within our community. The new program will seek to achieve its fundamental goal of building trustworthy relationships between the Police and the citizens we serve. The program will train volunteers for special assignments and activities which will include administrative and clerical support, neighborhood watch, handicap parking enforcement, vacation house checks, police vehicle maintenance, and special event support
