Because of the national VIPS Program, the Fairfax County Police Department is able to broaden our base of potential volunteers not only within Northern Virginia but throughout the country by use of the VIPS Website.

Total Citizens on Patrol volunteer hours - 2464
Total hours on special events and details - 619
Total hours of volunteer training - 184
Total hours spend in volunteer meetings - 176
Total Miles Patrolled in Cape Canaveral's 1.9 Square mile area - 24,865

The Canaveral C.O.P. Volunteers in 2012 were involved with every City of Canaveral FL sponsored event to include the Annual Easter Egg Hunt, Canaveral Chili Cook Off, National Night Out, 5K Reindeer Run, and Canaveral’s Friday Fest. The Canaveral C.O.P. Volunteers also assisted other precincts and cities with their special events to include Camp Chance, the Cocoa Beach Air Show, ABATE Christmas Toy Run, the Merritt Island Christmas Parade and Port St. John Christmas Parade, and Kennedy Space Center Employee picnic.

Cape Canaveral COP's staff a Canaveral Precinct informational tent complete with fingerprinting at the City of Cape Canaveral Friday Fest on the 1st Friday of every month.

Cape Canaveral C.O.P. Volunteers are active in the Brevard/Canaveral Police Athletic League.   PAL is a program for teenagers to gain knowledge of how to be proactive in their community and to become responsible adults. Currently there are over 65 active members in the Canaveral PAL program. Canaveral’s COP roll in the PAL program is to provide transportation to the events and outings. COP’s are driving the Sheriff’s Office 12 passenger vans transporting the teens to events around the county and out of county. The COP assistance has made these trips possible at no cost in overtime or having to take a Deputy Sheriff off from road patrol.

2012 Cost Benefits: If the Cape Canaveral COP Volunteers were compensated at the rate that BCSO starts out an entry-level position of a Public Service Aide ($9.65 an hour or $20,072 a year), the cost would have been $33,224.95 to compensate the Volunteers for their time worked. Again this year there is was substantial savings to the Citizens of Cape Canaveral.

The time spent patrolling, observing, assisting deputies, and assisting with City events by Cape Canaveral C.O.P. Volunteers has become well known in the value the C.O.P. program is to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and to the City Of Cape Canaveral.
