Volunteers are used to assist in all areas of the Police Department, enhancing staff members' ability to be more productive. Largo Police Department uses support and patrol volunteers.
Support volunteers are used to enter code enforcement data, records data and citizen survey data. Support volunteers also do microfilming, fleet maintenance, victim contacts, economic crime investigations, Buckle Up campaigns, as well as administrative functions.
Patrol volunteers attend a 66-hour academy and are then qualified to do traffic direction, pedestrian crossings, attend DAV's, parking lot crashes, package delivery, patrol parks, malls, schools, adopted areas, mobile home parks and municipal buildings. They report any repair needed by public works or the utility company. They can transport people and do seatbelt surveys and generate Safe Street Letters. We recently started doing vacation home checks, Parking Enforcement,Special Events and Found Property Reports.mj
