Program Description
Our Reserve Deputy Program consists of dedicated men and women who are volunteers, yet fully commissioned law enforcement deputies. They attend a local police academy, and receive the same type of training as a full time deputy. They are required to volunteer for 24 hours per month in the first year, then 12 hours per month after probation is completed. The duties of a Reserve Deputy include patrol, crime scene protection, crowd control, Marine Patrol, SWAT support, and many more duties as desired. The men and women in the Reserves hold a variety of full time jobs, and enjoy helping the community through this program.
Sheriff Garry Lucas states: "It would be impossible for us to fulfill our mission without the significant contributions made by our Reserve Deputies." Inquiries are welcome via our website or at 360-397-2211 Ext. 3380
The sheriff's office also utilizes non-sworn civilian volunteers to staff its Handicapped Parking Enforcement Program and to maintain an Explorer Post. Please contact the department for additional information.
