Senior Citizens Awareness Network (SCAN)
A program designated and designed to ensure that senior citizens (55 and older) can participate in and be assured of, safety, security and a sense of well-being.
SCAN volunteers visit the homes of seniors and conduct a safety and security check: are emergency numbers posted, is outside lighting adequate, are house numbers visible from the street, are the locks on doors secure, is the shrubbery or trees obstructing the windows or the house, is food in the refrigerator, etc.
Some of the members are lonely and need a "hello, how are you visit" while others are going without the necessities to maintain a safe and healthy life style.
SCAN assists their members with some of these necessities. We have had wheelchair ramps constructed, secured furniture for people who were sleeping with their clothes on the floor, had locks installed, had gravel delivered for muddy driveways, assisted members in filling out applications for food stamps, arrange for "Meals on Wheels" delivery. The list goes on and on.
The program is operated by donations alone. The State of Tennessee, Rutherford County or any city government within the boundaries of the county do not contribute to the funding of the program.
