Because of the national VIPS Program, the Fairfax County Police Department is able to broaden our base of potential volunteers not only within Northern Virginia but throughout the country by use of the VIPS Website.

Program Description

Our "Citizens and Police in Partnership" (CAPP) program is designed to free up and support both sworn and civilian staff as they perform their essential law enforcement functions, and to expand the range of services we can provide to the community. Unlike many other programs that may use volunteers in only limited functions, we currently have over 20 different volunteer job descriptions. Volunteers work in all areas of the Department performing everything from clerical/administrative tasks to parking enforcement and citizen patrols. The program has become a well established and well accepted part of daily operations.
