Building Blocks of a Law Enforcement Volunteer ProgramLaw enforcement volunteer programs vary by agency but the principles in their foundation are universal. This introductory course teaches attendees how to implement a volunteer program within a law enforcement agency. Participants will come away with a greater understanding of the importance of program infrastructure, recruitment, selection and management, training, recognition, and assessment. These building blocks will resonate with agencies just starting out with volunteers. Advancing an Existing Law Enforcement Volunteer ProgramAfter establishing a law enforcement volunteer program, many coordinators find themselves asking, “What’s next?” This training works to answer that question by providing information about volunteer management issues, advocacy and sustainability, innovative ideas, personnel issues, engaging youth, public health crises, recognition, and finding. By expanding the vision of a program coordinator, the volunteer program will have the potential to grow and succeed. Recent disasters have shown that law enforcement volunteers can play a valuable role in supplementing disaster preparation, response, and recovery efforts. This introductory training provides information about integrating volunteers into a law enforcement agency's plan for natural disasters, public health crises, and other emergencies. Participants will come away with specific information about disaster preparedness, the role of volunteers during disasters, CERT and pandemic response.
